The students peer group in karate is not the same as a cross section of society. These are students that are trying to achieve something with the knowledge that it takes a lot of work. Karate students are people aware of trying to better themselves. Karate parents tend to be more 'hands on' in relation to understanding the importance of dedication in a child's life. Goal oriented parents tend to impart goal orientation to their children. Teens have the opportunity to train with the adult class. This means that they get to play karate with Doctors, lawyers and other professionals. Often the teen is better at performing the karate techniques and is respected for this ability. Teens often get the opportunity to teach adults. This peer group helps the teen think for themselves rather than follow their own age peer group. |
